Arranging a Funeral in Farlington Parish

Thank You
I just wanted to say thank you for your friendly and engaging approach while officiating at the funeral service for my mother, [mother's name]. Your words were delivered with great sensitivity which was much appreciated.

Family member 2024.
A funeral for everyone . . .

Did you know that the Church of England offers to provide a funeral service for everyone who lives in the parish? Yes that's whether you (or your relative who has died) reckon you believe or not, never come to our churches, come occasionally or are a regular. It's all part of our calling and task, as the 'State'(or established) church to be the church for all people whether they count themselves as members or not.

So if you would like to mark the death of your loved one and celebrate their life in a service in one of our churches, it would be our privilege to arrange it with you and conduct it. Ask your funeral director to contact us - or you can speak to the Rector, Paul Gully here or on 023 9237 5145.

Even with a longer service time, and with our very best efforts, a service at a Crematorium can feel a little hurried. Having a service in church first can offer much more flexibility of time.
Thank You
Thank you for conducting a brilliant service for {name}'s funeral.

How about at the Crematorium or Cemetery?

If you are planning to hold a service at a cemetery chapel or crematorium there are many options available to you about who you could ask to conduct the service or ceremony. However if on this important occasions in your family life you wish to have the service conducted by a member of the Church of England clergy or one of our Licenced Lay Ministers we do conduct those services too, and would count it as a privilege. Just remember, if a funeral director asks if you are 'religious' saying 'no' doesn't stop you having a funeral with us. Again, ask your funeral director to contact us - or you can speak to the Rector, Paul Gully.

Won't the Rector tell us what we have to include . . .?

Some people will tell you that all Church of England funerals have to be the same, or the Vicar will tell you what you have to have. There are some common elements - like a Bible reading and prayers, but there is also room for a service to contain elements which are personal to the family and their deceased relative. We would be happy to sit with you and your family members and talk about ways we might make this service a fitting tribute.

As well as providing the location and/or the people to conduct the service we can provide a fitting place to bury your relative's cremated remains. There is a Garden of Remembrance in St Andrew's Churchyard. Ask us for details.

The rest of the churchyard at St Andrew's is full and there is no space for new graves. (The technical name for this is a 'closed' graveyard.) However if there is space in a family grave it may be possible to bury family members there. Again, ask us.

And . because we are local, we are still here after the funeral service is over. If you think we can help, we would like to offer our on-going support. While this is on offer for any member of the family, it may be particularly reassuring where a family member lives locally and the rest of the family live at a distance.
Don't need our funeral services yet?

What about discussing your funeral wishes with us? We would be happy to sit and talk with you. Some people may see this as 'morbid' or 'tempting fate'. We prefer to see it as giving your family the opportunity of knowing that they are carrying out your wishes and removing from them the worry about getting it wrong. And it's free.
