Sarah WYNTER BEE (née Leatherdale)

I was born in 1953 in Oxford and was baptised by my grandfather, the Rev Robert Leatherdale. He was Rector of Farlington 1925/34 and was responsible for the building of the Church of the Resurrection. I don’t know if he became co-Patron of the parish but it passed to my father, Dr RAL Leatherdale from Miss Richards in 1975 and I took over in 1996. As I understand it this is legally the right to present a candidate for the benefice of Farlington but I prefer the dictionary definition of a patron as one who “supports, fosters or protects” – well, I’ll do my best!

I grew up in Bournemouth where I was educated until I was 16 when I went to the United World College of the Atlantic, Wales. I subsequently worked as a bilingual secretary in Paris and London. I am married to Peter, a lawyer and MD of ZincOx Resources. We have two children, Jessica and William, who are medical students.

I was confirmed in the Church of England and Peter and I were married by the Rev Peter Godman, who prepared me for confirmation. I live in Surrey and am a member of the Parish of Bisley & West End. For many years I taught Sunday School until I became editor of our parish magazine. My husband has served as a churchwarden and our children have been confirmed.

With my husband I publish ‘People of the Day’ - books and prints celebrating the lives and achievements of those making their mark in today’s world. Profits are donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust  – as the Bishop of London said it’s“One of the freshest and brightest charitable ideas.”
